JAPANESE DELEGATION STARTED TO WORK IN ISTANBUL
A delegation came from Japan in context of a "Friendship and Cooperation Agreement" signed in with Tokyo's Bunkyo Municipality and a "Disaster Project Cooperation Agreement” signed with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This delegation visited Beyoğlu Mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan in his office and started their projects related to earthquakes.
After Beyoğlu Mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan signed the "Friendship and Cooperation Agreement" with Bunkyo Municipalities last November in Japan, and "Disaster Prevention Project Cooperation Agreement " with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with the support of Yunus Emre Institute, a delegation led by Department Manager Ken Enokido came to Istanbul to start some investigations.
JAPANESE DELEGATION VISITED DEMIRCAN IN HIS OFFICE
Japanese Delegation, who aims to transfer the earthquake experiences of Japan to Istanbul through Beyoğlu in the scope of "Disaster Prevention Project Cooperation Agreement", visited the restorated Beyoğlu Municipality buildings in Şişhane. The delegation visited Beyoğlu Mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan in his office and they were briefed about the district.
WE STILL HAVE SCARS FROM THE EARTHQUAKE THAT HAPPANED 15 YEARS AGO
Demircan stated how they see that Japan is living under earthquake risks everyday and how they admire Japan's solutions, said "Even though our situation is not as critical as yours, we are also under a serious threat or earthquakes. We still have our scars from the Istanbul earthquake that happened 15 years ago. And there is a serious possibility that a new earthquake is coming in a short period of time. We have started the sisterhood process of the two districts in last November. With this sisterhood agreement of the two districts and we will bring the earthquake awareness experience of Japan to İstanbul through Beyoğlu.
After the meeting, Japanese delegation investigated the youth center and Ayvalik District Mansion.
JAPANESE DELEGATION BRIEFED BY AFAD CHAIRMAN BOSTAN
The delegation continued to gather information regarding Istanbul and Beyoğlu and they have also visited Istanbul Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate (AFAD).AFAD Chairman Gökay Atilla Bostan, gave a presentation about the disaster coordination studies they are performing and briefed the Japanese delegation. The delegation stated that they are willing to perform joint projects as well. In response, Chairman Bostan stated they would be very excited to provide all means of supports after presentation of any projects.
AFAD AMAZES THE JAPANESE
After a briefing on projects and taken measures against the earthquakes, the delegation took a tour on AFAD building. Japanese delegation stated that the building is well equipped and added "We have taken our notes, everything is impressive starting from the communication systems".
After a week of feasibility studies in Beyoğlu, the Japanese delegation, will perform analyses and present various projects regarding Beyoğlu to Mayor Demircan.
