RUMI QUAFFED FROM THE SPRING OF THE MERCY OF GOD

Mayor of the Municipality of Beyoğlu Ahmet Misbah Demircan, holding a speech at the opening of the program, said that the doctrine of Mevlevi held a special place in our civilization and stated: “The source of this unique crystal clear spring, which is exclusive for our culture and civilization, is our Prophet, who shows mercy on the universe. Islam is the last religion granted to the entire human kind. Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi quaffed from this spring of mercy. His heart grew so much to love human beings, any object created. In this context, his call “Come, whoever you are, come!” made hundreds of years ago is just as new and fresh as it was said yesterday. This blessed invitation going out from Konya spreading over in circles enlightened the entire world and continues to do so.”

BEYOĞLU FLOWS LIKE WATER IN ITS OWN BED

Mayor Demircan, adding to his words that anybody who is a human being is inspired by Rumi, stated: “The lodge of dervishes of Galata has become a significant Center of the light, which spread out to the universe. Even though Beyoğlu looks the first contact point of the western culture in Turkey when looking at it from outside, it is in fact a major head gate (Asitane) where our civilization was incubated and blended. Today, Beyoğlu is still a center from where this light shines and spreads out to the entire universe.  In his masterpiece “Mesnevi” Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi talked about move depending on the Center, change depending on the roots and said: “Flow like a water, but let your water bed be visible”. Also Beyoğlu has to flow like water in its bed.”
