NIGHT OF REUNION AT BEYOĞLU
Major Islamic scholar and Sufi Mewlana Celaleddin-i Rumi, has been commemorated with the Reunion Program “Şeb-i Arus” organized at the dervishes at Galata by the Municipality of Beyoğlu on the occasion of the 741st anniversary of the reunion. Mayor of Beyoğlu Ahmet Misbah Demircan, holding a speech at the ceremony, which was attended by the community leaders of different religions said: “Rumi Quaffed from the springs of God’s mercy and grace. His heart expanded so to love the entire humanity and to embrace everything.”
The 741st Anniversary of Reunion of Rumi, “Şeb-i Arus” organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Municipality of Beyoğlu, the International Rumi Foundation and the Foundation of Culture City, was commemorated with a ceremony at the Lodge of dervishes of Galata. The Mayor of Beyoğlu, Ahmet Misbah Demircan hosted the commemoration program, covering Sufi music and whirling of the dervish. The program was attended by the district governor Osman Ekşi, district head of Beyoğlu from the AK (the Justice and Development Party) Harun Muş, the mufti of the district of Beyoğlu Aydın Yıpman, the chief rabbi of the Jewish community İsak Haleva, assistant Assyrian Catholic Patriarch Yusuf Sağ, district director of national education Cemil Sarıcı, theologist – writer Ali Rıza Demircan and by many other guests.
RUMI QUAFFED FROM THE SPRING OF THE MERCY OF GOD
Mayor of the Municipality of Beyoğlu Ahmet Misbah Demircan, holding a speech at the opening of the program, said that the doctrine of Mevlevi held a special place in our civilization and stated: “The source of this unique crystal clear spring, which is exclusive for our culture and civilization, is our Prophet, who shows mercy on the universe. Islam is the last religion granted to the entire human kind. Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi quaffed from this spring of mercy. His heart grew so much to love human beings, any object created. In this context, his call “Come, whoever you are, come!” made hundreds of years ago is just as new and fresh as it was said yesterday. This blessed invitation going out from Konya spreading over in circles enlightened the entire world and continues to do so.”
BEYOĞLU FLOWS LIKE WATER IN ITS OWN BED
Mayor Demircan, adding to his words that anybody who is a human being is inspired by Rumi, stated: “The lodge of dervishes of Galata has become a significant Center of the light, which spread out to the universe. Even though Beyoğlu looks the first contact point of the western culture in Turkey when looking at it from outside, it is in fact a major head gate (Asitane) where our civilization was incubated and blended. Today, Beyoğlu is still a center from where this light shines and spreads out to the entire universe. In his masterpiece “Mesnevi” Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi talked about move depending on the Center, change depending on the roots and said: “Flow like a water, but let your water bed be visible”. Also Beyoğlu has to flow like water in its bed.”
OFFERED HAS BEEN MEVLEVI-STYLE RICE
The whirling ceremony of the dervishes performed at the “Şeb-i Arus night under the fascinating atmosphere of the Lodge of Dervish of Galata in Beyoğlu delighted the guests with high spiritual feelings. At the commemoration ceremony, which was attended highly, the guests have been served “Mevlevi Pilaf” (rice), “Ayran” and dessert.
