Within the scope of cultural festivals “Beyoğlu Culture and Art Days”, Beyoglu Municipality organises “Bouquiniste Festival” every year around Galata Tower.
During the Beyoğlu Bouquiniste Festival, different precious collections and artworks are demonstrated in the exhibition and many items, from greeting cards to black and white souvenir photos and cinema posters that fans find interesting and valuable were offered to sale at the festival stands. The stock collections belonging to pre-Republic Period and early years of Republic, title-deed, notary public documents arranged during Ottoman times drew great interest from the collectors. While the old animation books were given place on the shelves, the original movie posters going back to 1950’s, books illustrating Ottoman tile, rug, fabric motifs appeared as favorite items of the Festival. Also, documents and letters containing the signatures of the historical people and important leaders were displayed in the festival.
The 4th Galata Bouquiniste Festival held in 2010, gathered almost 80 bouquinistes from Kadıköy, Moda, Sarıyer, Ortaköy, Beyazıt, Şişli and Beyoğlu districts. Thes festival was realized with the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture, and renown persons, including Hasan Şenses, Governor of Beyoğlu, Ahmet Emre Bilgili, Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Istanbul, Journalist-Author Doğan Hızlan, Author Beşir Ayvazoğlu, Cinema actor İzzet Günay and actress Pelin Batu took place at the opening ceremony which was an important show and a glorious organization.The book fans who took part in the book auction sale during the Festival entered into keen competition in order to get the books they want. During the Festival at Taksim Gezi Park, 137 precious books were submitted to auction. At the end of the feverish auction, the book-fans owned many precious books.
