BEYOĞLU MUNICIPALITY TURABIBABA LIBRARY
The Turabi Baba Building which hosts today the Beyoğlu Municipality Turabibaba Library was in the 18th Century a Dervish lodge. Further, the building was used as Kasımpaşa Sport Clup, but with the fire incident in 1975, the building collapsed due to lack of maintenance and later on with the initiative of Beyoğlu Municipality, the building has been constructed according to its’ original structure and completed in 2008.
Consequently, the dervish lodge has been reshaped with a new function ; the Turabibaba Library, where the local residents have the opportunity to benefit from the public library and the researchers to discover Beyoğlu from the archives of the research center.
The Turabibaba Library aims to support education and to meet book-readers’ demand for documentation and information in all media in the area of Beyoğlu District where the income of the local citizens is low. Turabi Baba Library has a very positive impact on the local citizens, not only books are borrowed but seminars, special reading days are organised.
The Library’s infrastructure is equiped with the latest technology to ensure a sustainable enhancement of service quality and to become one of the varied libraries. The library comprises books on different topics, reference collections, music-audio-visual materials, periodicals, audio books and has a very important archives concerning the history of Beyoğlu which is a special part of the library called the “Memory of Beyoğlu”. The activities are not only for children but for mothers as well, where they have the opportunity to gain consciousness on different subjects.
